Doonside Public School, NSW

Doonside Public School had a fantastic Book Giving Assembly on Thursday the 29th November 2012 with their Role Model Janine Dawson being able to attend. The kids enjoyed listening to Janine talk about her work as an illustrator and even had a table set up with some of her work in the library. The kids were so delighted to receive their book bags filled with their chosen books.

After the assembly, Janine spent an hour with our 5/6 class sharing her drawing knowledge. They were thrilled to hear what Janine did and she helped them to produce some great drawings!

A special thanks from Doonside Public School to Sam Forzisi and Corey Braid from Mainfreight Australia for coming to their Book Giving Assembly and helping distribute the new books as well as for ALL of their support!

St Brendan's School, Flemington Victoria

St Brendan's School in Flemington Victoria were very lucky to have the star of the Books in Homes Term 4 2012 catalogue Craig Smith as their school’s Role Model. Craig Smith and the school’s sponsors Allen’s Lawyers were able to attend the Book Giving Assembly on Thursday the 22nd November 2012.

There was a great attendance by parents as well. This action packed assembly got off to a fantastic start with Craig Smith explaining to the audience how he illustrates his books. He has been illustrating children’s books for over 35 years!!! Craig then got the whole school involved and taught them how to sketch a person. Everyone was listening and concentrating very hard. Even the adults got involved!

At the end of Craig’s talk to the school, everyone was asked to show their drawings to him and he was very impressed that we were all such good drawers! There was a lot of competition between the students and the adults as to who were the best drawers!

Steve Clifford, David Stewart, Blake Ericksen, Emma Arbon, Sally and Andrew Gould from Allen’s Lawyers also had a great time and they helped in handing out all of the new books that the students had chosen. The students were so enthusiastic and happy to receive their new books; it was like Christmas time for the students!!

The students from St Brendan's School in Flemington want to say a BIG thank you to Craig Smith for visiting their school and speaking at their assembly as well as helping both the students and adults to become budding illustrators!! Both the students, parents and teachers at St Brendan's School also want to say a HUGE thanks you to Allen’s Law Firm their sponsors. The students are so grateful that you support them and they love reading and sharing their new books!!
